‘Titans’ Crushes DVD competition

Even in 2D, the Sam Worthington epic bests “Cop Out”

“Clash of the Titans” slayed the competition last week. The sword and sandals epic made bank last spring in 3D, but even in lowly 2D “Clash” was able to claim the top spots on both the DVD rental and sales charts, according to Rentrak.

The weeks other debut, box office bomb “Repo Men,” claimed the third and fourth slots on the the sales and rental charts respectively.

Holdover “Cop Out,” the Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan comedy, showed some legs by hanging on to second place on both charts in its second week of release.

Next week brings superhero satire “Kick-Ass,” which should provide nearly as formidable a challenge for “Clash” as the Kraken.

The other big releases, Roman Polanski’s thriller “The Ghost Writer” and the kids film “Diary of a Wimpy Kid,” weren’t huge box office successes, but seem poised to find fans on DVD.
