Tim McGraw channeled the voice of country music icon Glen Campbell during the Oscars on Sunday to perform Best Original Song nominee “I’m Not Gonna Miss You.”
Campbell, who suffers from Alzheimer’s Disease, wrote the song during the production of James Keach’s documentary “Glen Campbell: I’ll Be Me.”
The 78-year-old, currently living in an assisted-living facility specializing in Alzheimer’s care in Tennessee, is no longer able to perform. The song, co-written by Julian Raymond, was Campbell’s final recording and is a poignant farewell in which the singer tells his wife that she’s the last person he’ll ever love, although he won’t remember her.
“I’m Not Gonna Miss You” is one of five Best Original Song nominees that were performed throughout the show. Others include “Everything Is Awesome” from “The Lego Movie,” “Glory” from “Selma,” “Grateful” from “Beyond the Lights” and “Lost Stars” from “Begin Again.”
