‘Thor’ Starts Principal Photography

Comic book adaptation stars Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman

Marvel Studios announced that principal photography had started on Kenneth Branagh’s "Thor" on Monday.

The news comes after a last minute shakeup that saw Stuart Townsend, who had been cast as Fandral, an ally of Thor, left the film and was replaced by Joshua Dallas.

Newcomer Chris Hemsworth will portrays the title character and Tom Hiddleston will play Thor’s brother and foil Loki.

Among the more prominent cast members in Branagh’s comic book adaptation are Natalie Portman as Jane Foster, Anthony Hopkins as Odin, Renee Russo as Frigga, and Ray Stevenson as Volstagg.

The film will be released on May 6, 2011 through Paramount Pictures."Thor" is sliding into the release date surrendered by "Spider-Man 4," which Sony announced Monday it would scrape and reboot with a new cast and director.
