If Season 3 of “This Is Us” taught us anything it was that Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) and Rebecca Pearson’s (Mandy Moore) love story wasn’t actually a fairytale. Actually, that awkward first date alone was more than enough proof that the two weren’t a perfect fit from the start. But fans know that Jack and Rebecca were meant to be — even if only till death did them part — and a rough road is just one that some couples have to take to get to the good stuff.
In the interview above, Moore tells TheWrap Jack will be meeting Rebecca’s parents on Season 4 when we revisit one of the show’s many past timelines. And it sounds like that introduction — especially with her father — will be a significant one.
“The very first season we saw that they had like a courthouse wedding and we saw the end of it, but I too am curious as to what the lead up is,” the NBC star told us. “I’m really interested in their courtship, like, how they sort of find themselves getting engaged and then a wedding, and all of that I feel like is so ripe for exploring. I do know that we’re going to start to get deeper into that time period, specifically when Jack and Rebeca make it back to Pittsburgh from their California road trip. And him meeting my parents and specifically my father. And my father plays a bigger role in our relationship moving forward.”
Setting aside the past, Moore told TheWrap when we can expect to go back to the future to see what’s going on with Rebecca there, as the third season finale of the Dan Fogelman-created drama has us worried about her health an the possibility she has Alzheimer’s disease.
“I would tell people to sort of take a beat and recognize that we are fortunate enough to have been picked up for three more seasons, so we have some time to tell the story,” she said. “I think we sort of consider ourselves kind of at like the intermission, we’re at the halfway point now. So we’ve done 54 and ostensibly we have 54 ahead of us, so I don’t think that Rebecca is necessarily a timeline that we’re going to visit super often. I mean, it is in the future as well, which is always I think a tricky time to play, ’cause who knows what the world is gonna look like 15, 20 years from now.”
“And I also think that, I think there are very compelling stories and connections that will be revealed in the very first episode that will play out for the entirety of the series, but especially Season 4, especially pertinent to Season 4,” she continued. “Perhaps some new faces, which I’m very excited about. And yeah, there are some reveals and some surprises, more than one in the very first episode that I’ve said before I didn’t see coming.”
