“The Walking Dead” may not have broken another ratings record with its season six premiere, but it was still easily the top scripted show of Sunday night.
AMC’s hit zombie apocalypse drama netted an impressive 14.6 million viewers and a 7.4 rating in the advertiser coveted adults 18-49 demographic. That is down slightly from the fall 2014 premiere, which scored an incredible 17.3 million viewers and an 8.7 rating.
Even if it was down, the premiere was still good enough to beat Sunday Night Football in the key demo, as well as the season two premiere of “Empire,” which got a 6.7 when it aired on Fox in September.
The 90-minute episode was also mentioned in nearly 1 million tweets Sunday night, generating 3.6 billion impressions via 825,000 unique users. It was also the top trending topic for most of Sunday night and the number one most mentioned show on Facebook Sunday.
