With Donald Trump still leading the Republican presidential field, the women of “The View” disagreed on Monday about how the other candidates should handle him in the first debate.
“Why would you spend that much time on this?” asked an exasperated Whoopi Goldberg in response to the news that the other candidates are spending their time prepping to go against the real estate mogul.
“Because they have to,” co-host Raven-Symonè responded during the “Hot Topics” segment . “Donald Trump knows how to tell you how he feels to your face and not care one second about it. I don’t know those other people and how they talk, but if they don’t learn how to buffer that, they’re going to fail.”
Nicole Wallace agreed that the other candidates need to be willing to stand up to Trump in person if they want to maintain their credibility.
“So you’re basically saying that they’re going to spend all that time [talking about Trump], which is probably what he wants, because it keeps him the head guy,” Goldberg responded, and then pointed out that the only reason she continues to talk about Trump is because “it’s on the prompter.”
The panel also discussed Joe Biden’s potential entry into the presidential race, noting that his penchant for political gaffes could cause some trouble.
A clip reel of Biden’s slips of the tongue and overly-intimate interactions with people led Raven-Symonè and Michelle Collins to call the 72-year-old Democrat “creepy.”
Wallace, though, was quick to point out that how someone reacts to Biden’s faux pas is often indicative of where they fall on the political spectrum. “It’s sort of in the eye of the beholder.” she said. “If you like him, you love that, and you find it endearing. If you don’t like that, you find it creepy.”
