Whoopi Goldberg had a strong message for Trump supporters demanding recounts of battleground states that went for Joe Biden in the presidential election on Monday’s episode of “The View” — “Suck it up.”
The daytime political talk show’s moderator rarely gets heated, but when she does, she means business.
“To all those people who don’t believe that Americans actually got out and voted, let me say this to you. When you know who was elected four years ago, Hilary Clinton didn’t say, ‘Hey, wait a minute, this doesn’t feel right, stop the count.’ She didn’t say, ‘This doesn’t feel right, I’m not going for it.’ She didn’t say any of that. So all of you, suck it up. Suck it up like we sucked it up,” Goldberg said. “Grow the pair for him that he can’t grow for himself. Because this is ridiculous, you’re not sure that he won. You’re bringing into question all these Americans who voted legally, came out and stood and voted. How dare you question it?”
She continued using Clinton as an example, pointing out that she conceded without a hitch after losing to Trump in 2016.
“Hillary did not whine. Hillary did not quine. She did not say, ‘We need a recount.’ She said ‘OK, you won fair and square,’ even when we knew the Russians had been in there. She did not say, ‘Well, I should be president now.’ She did what you’re supposed to do,” Goldberg said Monday. “If you don’t win, then you say OK, and you fight harder next time.”
Then Goldberg went on to clear up some facts about the 2000 recount that took place in the Presidential race between George W. Bush and Al Gore.
“Do you know in 2000, Al Gore had an actual case? And the difference in Florida — and the Republicans keep bringing this up — the difference was 500 votes in one state,” she said. “When I hear Republicans saying, ‘We have to recount’ — listen, suck it up! Suck it up. This is the United States of America.”
She urged Donald Trump and Mike Pence to do what President Barack Obama and his then-Vice President Biden did they lost in 2016, and what John McCain did when he lost to Obama in 2008 — gracefully concede and help the next administration in their transition.
“When your guys win, we gotta suck it up. We each have to do what we have to do. That’s the American way. So let’s at least try to be respectful, because if you’re not going to respect the fact that all these people came out and voted, you are basically saying you don’t care about the American democracy. That’s what you’re saying. All of y’all who said, ‘Well I don’t know’ — you know. Suck it up.”
