Whoopi Goldberg got blunt on Tuesday’s episode of “The View,” saying that, because of diligent Republican efforts to block legislation that the Biden administration proposes, the people of the United States are getting “boned over.”
Whoopi’s comments came as the women were discussing Vice President Kamala Harris’ first late-night appearance since taking office, appearing on “Late Night with Seth Meyers” on Monday night. During her appearance, Harris called the move by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott to bus migrants to Washington D.C., a “dereliction of duty,” and argued that a true leader would try to find a real solution.
Conservative host Alyssa Farah Griffin attempted to turn the table on Harris’ comments, saying that “for the Biden/Harris administration to say that we need to see leadership on the issue of border security and the crisis of immigration in this country, is kind of rich because they have not tried to solve the problem.” But, as Whoopi later pointed out, the very first bill Biden proposed after taking office was an immigration bill, intended to provide funding to border security as well as provide a path to citizenship. That bill still has not gotten a vote.
“To say that nothing’s been done when his first proposal — listen, we all know what’s happening,” Whoopi shot back. “All this stuff that should be happening for the people in this country are being boned over by the other side. You know, not all the other side, but a great many of the other side.”
Whoopi noted that, in her opinion, Harris did provide a real solution to move toward solving the issues around immigration.
“Kamala’s message was pretty clear. She provided solutions, she said vote,” Whoopi said. “That’s a very clear solution to me.”
Meanwhile, host Ana Navarro said that she’d like to see more toughness from the vice president, and encouraged Harris to take things further, particularly in regards to Republican lawmakers.
“Frankly, you know what she should do on immigration? She should call their bluff,” Navarro said. “She should call a summit and invite DeSantis, and invite Abbott. Invite the governors and say, ‘OK offer solutions. And let’s work together.’”
