‘The View’: Whoopi Goldberg Says the Show Wouldn’t Turn Away Election Deniers as Guests (Video)

But “oftentimes they come to sell a book. They don’t like to come to just talk to us,” Whoopi said

The hosts of “The View” may be outspoken on their political beliefs, and actively criticize and debunk those who are still denying the results of the 2020 election, but that doesn’t mean they’d turn away an election denier as a guest.

On Monday’s episode of the show, the women discussed the many debates that have happened ahead of the midterm elections, including those of Herschel Walker and Marjorie Taylor Greene. Host Sunny Hostin said that the latter was “like a clown show.” But the hosts also discussed the debate that didn’t happen, between Arizona gubernatorial candidates Kari Lake and Katie Hobbs.

Hobbs has declined to debate Lake, based on the fact that Lake is among those who falsely claim the 2020 election was stolen from twice-impeached former President Donald Trump. But, at a recent campaign stop, Lake publicly called out Hobbs, saying she’d be willing to debate anywhere — even “on ‘The View,’ and let Joy Behar and Whoopi ask the questions.”

At that, Whoopi grinned coyly and joked, “That would be your dream wouldn’t it?” But she added that “we don’t turn people away.”

When host Sunny Hostin expressed some hesitancy, saying that the show might turn someone away if they’re an election denier, Whoopi doubled down and admitted that, even then, someone like Kari Lake would be welcome, in an effort to help people see all sides. The issue is, those people mostly want to come on the show to sell things.

“What tends to happen when your guys come is they don’t come to talk to us,” Whoopi said. “Oftentimes they come to sell a book. They don’t like to come to just talk to us. That’s what I want from y’all.”
