“The View’s” Whoopi Goldberg believes Donald Trump’s claim of seeing “thousands” of Muslims cheering on 9/11 puts a major target on Muslim women.
“The easiest Muslims to spot are women,” Goldberg said on Monday’s episode of the ABC daytime show, referring to the hijabs worn by some Muslim women. “So when you’re doing this, Donald, you’re putting a lot of people in danger. Think before you talk.”
Goldberg also said that reports of Muslims celebrating when the World Trade Center towers came down has been widely debunked, but that has not stopped Trump from using the story on the campaign trail.
“So remember in Germany people would point and say you know, ‘It’s their fault it’s happening. It’s them?’” Goldberg said. “This is the same crap. There are 2.5 million American Muslims here.”
Co-host Raven-Symone also cautioned that people latch on to such falsehoods and add their own spin, thus perpetuating the cycle of hatred.
“I was listening to the radio this morning and somebody used [Trump’s] quote and then added words to it because of what they thought he said and we go through that every day and we’re not running for President,” she said.
Paula Feris believes that Trump is using the story to score points with conservative voters. “He knows he does really well when he talks about the vets, when he talks about the military, so he is going hardcore at this,” she said. “And you look at the political narrative amongst GOP voters. It’s really changing right now.”
