“The View” erupted into chaos Monday morning as audience members loudly protested Ted Cruz’s appearance. The show was then forced to commercial when the shouting from women in the audience turned profane.
“F— you Ted Cruz, you climate-denying piece of s—,” one protester can be seen yelling in video released by a group that claimed responsibility for the protest.
That outburst was part of a coordinated effort during the Texas senator’s appearance on the ABC talk show. Cruz had been answering one of the hosts’ questions when at least two other audience members began shouting phrases including “Cover climate now!” As they chanted, the senator continued barreling through his answer.
After a few minutes, host Alyssa Farah Griffin cut in, reassuring the audience that “We do cover climate here guys,” while moderator Whoopi Goldberg yelled at the protestors to stop.
“Excuse me! Ladies, ladies! Excuse us! Let us do our jobs,” Whoopi said. “Let us do our job. We hear what you have to say, but you gotta go! You gotta go. You gotta let us do our job.”
That moment, from what aired on ABC, can be seen at the top of this post. One of the activist group that claimed responsibility for the protest posted other video, which you can see below.
Security began to usher the women out as the audience member who prompted the show to go straight to commercial began to shout, as Cruz claimed that the core question for voters is whether their lives are better now than they were two years ago, and said “I think for the vast majority of Americans, the answer is no.”
But the reaction from the hosts at the table to the profanity was visible. Sunny Hostin appeared shocked by what was said, while Farah Griffin chastised the audience saying, “Come on guys.”
You can watch that moment from the ABC broadcast in the video below.
The show then cut immediately to commercial break. When it returned, the hosts didn’t address the outburst directly, but Whoopi did poke fun at it, saying, “Yes, he came, he stayed.”
