“The View” returned from hiatus on Monday and jumped right into the thick of things, discussing Hillary Clinton’s announcement that she will be running for President.
While they didn’t all see eye to eye on Clinton’s candidacy, the hosts agreed they love the idea of Bill Clinton as the “First Dude.”
“Let’s objectify a man for once and talk about what he wears to the first state dinner,” co-host Nicolle Wallace said.
Guest co-host Michelle Collins said, “It’s about time we have a woman in the White House. Enough is enough. We’re one of the last nations that hasn’t had a female President or leader and it’s about time.”
“I think it’s great she’s running as a woman,” guest co-host Candace Cameron Bure said. “I hope she plays on her femininity this time in the sense that I like when a woman acts as a woman.”
Wallace also raised the point that Clinton has more to overcome than just her gender. “Only once before has a person whose party has held the office of the Presidency for two terms won essentially a third term,” Wallace said.
Wallace also said that Clinton’s candidacy should not be unfairly burdened because she is a woman. “She has to run as the person to be the best leader of the free world,” Wallace said. “I think also running as a woman is too much to put on a woman. Men don’t have to run as good dads.”
Co-host Whoopi Goldberg summed up by saying, “She’ll do what she can do, and if she’s the right candidate, they’ll elect her. ”
