After telling House Minority Leader Chuck Schumer to his face on Tuesday that “you caved” on the GOP funding bill, “The View” host Sunny Hostin doubled down on her criticisms on Wednesday. But host Joy Behar scolded her for it this time.
To kick off the day’s Hot Topics, the ABC hosts discussed the backlash Schumer is facing from the rest of the party, most recently including Nancy Pelosi. Host Alyssa Farah Griffin even laughed in surprise at how Pelosi “backed that bus up over him.”
She added that she was surprised at how much infighting Schumer’s decision has caused, and encouraged him to step down as minority leader because “his messaging is, respectfully, disastrous.” Host Joy Behar agreed at least on the infighting part, telling Democrats to stop going after each other.
“Well, I don’t know Joy, that they are fighting with each other,” Hostin pushed back as Behar disagreed. “They are not fighting a unified fight. That is the problem.”
Behar disagreed again though, saying that Pelosi’s public disagreement with how Schumer handled things is a clear sign that they are fighting each other. But Hostin quickly noted that Pelosi was justified.
“You know why she’s criticizing him? Because he should have been fighting for that veteran,” Hostin said. “He should have been fighting for the people of America that are feeling the way that they are feeling. The Americans that I have spoken to, people that approach me almost every single day, say they don’t feel like the party is fighting for them.”
“He had the opportunity to fight for them,” she added. “Chuck Schumer caved to the GOP and got nothing.”
At that, Behar got exasperated, and scolded Hostin to “not beat the dead body.”
“The body is dead!” she exclaimed.
Hostin pushed through though, explaining that Schumer explanation of the bill being a choice between two bad options — one bad, and one significantly worse — was not valid.
