The hosts of “The View” were just as floored as the rest of the country to learn that Trump administration members accidentally added a journalist from The Atlantic to a group chat discussing military plans, but there was one detail that really stuck out for Alyssa Farah Griffin — one regarding Vice President JD Vance.
Among the messages laying out plans for the U.S. launching air and naval strikes against the Houthis in Yemen, was one from Vance expressing some hesitation on the timing.
“I am not sure the president is aware how inconsistent this is with his message on Europe right now,” Vance wrote. “There’s a further risk that we see a moderate to severe spike in oil prices. I am willing to support the consensus of the team and keep these concerns to myself. But there is a strong argument for delaying this a month, doing the messaging work on why this matters, seeing where the economy is, etc.”
Seeing that message, Farah Griffin was genuinely shocked, arguing that Vance “seems to completely undermine President Trump” with his words.
“I have never seen such a stunning disagreement between a vice president and president among his cabinet while the president is not present,” she said. “That’s insane!”
At that, host Joy Behar joked that it should be interesting to see how Trump eventually reacts to the criticism leveled behind his back, prompting Farah Griffin to reiterate the oddity of it.
“No, honestly, when Mike Pence told him ‘You can’t steal the election,’ he did it personally, face to face, privately in the oval office,” she said. “I’ve never seen anything like it, it’s stunning!”
“The View” airs weekdays at 11 a.m. ET on ABC.
