Looks like Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s stunt double will have a sweet ride to his doctor’s appointments in the future.
“Skyscraper” star rewarded his stunt double and cousin, Tanoai Reed, for all his hard work and physical suffering, surprising Reed with a new custom truck in an exchange that was shared in a video on Johnson’s Instagram page.
“SURPRISE! I love handing over keys,” Johnson wrote. “I love you brother and enjoy your new truck!”
Johnson continued, “Over the course of my career, my stunt double (and cousin) Tanoai Reed @samoanstuntman has broken multiple bones, severed tendons, torn ligaments & just been an overall dominating bad ass achieving several ‘Stuntman of the Year’ honors. All done with one goal in mind – deliver the best movie possible to the world.”
As explained by Johnson and detailed in the video, Johnson lured Reed — who according to Johnson is “still recovering from a stunt injury” — into his very generous trap under the guise of doing an interview about their careers together.
As the ruse played out, Johnson gave a verbal cue to have vehicles blocking the truck move, revealing Johnson’s gift.
“Not only does Tanoai represent our family and my career with relentless commitment and passion,” Johnson wrote. “He also represents an entire Hollywood stunt community that is truly the backbone of our business. Love you uso and thank you for the blood, sweat, tears and years.”
Reed also posted the video on his own account, writing that he was “still in complete shock” over the gift.
“I’m still in complete shock from the surprise and so very humbled by his gesture of gratitude and post below . I’m truly blessed with the most amazing brother/boss/friend in @therock and the amazing team he surrounds himself with has truly become my extended family,” Reed wrote. “Thank you for all of the years of your support and love and for helping put this awesome surprise together!”
