‘The Politician’: See Ben Platt, Gwyneth Paltrow and Jessica Lange in First Look at Ryan Murphy Netflix Series (Photos)

Satire launches Sept. 27

Netflix revealed the first look at Ryan Murphy’s upcoming satire “The Politician” Thursday, a series starring Ben Platt, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jessica Lange and Zoey Deutch.

The show — Murphy’s first at the streaming service — is centered around Platt’s character, “an impossibly driven young man who dreams of being the president” and also stars Lucy Boynton, Theo Germaine, Julia Schlaepfer and Laura Dreyfuss.

Here’s the logline for the series:

Payton Hobart (Platt), a wealthy student from Santa Barbara, California, has known since age seven that he’s going to be President of the United States. But first, he’ll have to navigate the most treacherous political landscape of all: Saint Sebastian High School. To get elected Student Body President, secure a spot at Harvard, and stay on his singular path to success, Payton will have to outsmart his ruthless classmates without sacrificing his own morality and carefully crafted image. Full of dark comedy and sly satire, Ryan Murphy’s “The Politician” offers a rare glimpse into just what it takes to make a politician.

Murphy will serve as writer, showrunner and executive producer on “The Politician,” with his former “Glee” partners Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan also writing and executive producing.

The show is a 20th Century Fox-produced series which was picked up by Netflix before Murphy exited his overall deal with his longtime studio for a reported $300 million pact with the streaming service.
