Netflix is in the process of developing a second season of “The Perfect Couple,” according to media reports.
After the first season of “The Perfect Couple” adapted Elin Hilderbrand’s novel of the same name, the second installment would be based on Hilderbrand’s “Swan Song,” which is also set in Nantucket. Season 2 is in development at Netflix, and, if greenlit, would shift “The Perfect Couple” from a limited series to an anthology series.
The new season would welcome aboard a new showrunner in Joanna Calo, who’s best known for co-showrunning and executive producing FX’s “The Bear.” Susanne Bier and Nicole Kidman, who starred in the first season, will return as EPs alongside Gail Berman, Shawn Levy, Hend Baghdady and Per Saari.
Netflix declined to comment on this story.
Kidman starred in “The Perfect Couple” as Greer Winbury, the matriarch of the wealthy Winbury family who guards the secrets of their family with their life. Kidman led the all-star cast of the series alongside Liev Schreiber, Eve Hewson, Meghann Fahy, Dakota Fanning, Jack Reynor and Billy Howle, among others.
After premiering on the streamer on Thursday, Sept. 5, “The Perfect Couple” debuted as Netflix’s most-watched TV series during the week of Sept. 2, tallying up 20.3 million views from its Sept. 5 debut through Sunday, Sept. 8. The opening weekend viewership rivaled that of “Emily in Paris” Season 4, which debuted its first five episodes to 19.9 million views in August.
“The Perfect Couple” scored Schreiber a win at the 30th annual Critics Choice Awards for best supporting actor in a limited series or movie made for television. And the opening dance scene also captivated audiences and became a viral sensation.
Deadline first reported the news of Season 2 being in development.
