Good news and bad news for fans of “The Neighborhood.” After weeks of silence, the CBS comedy has been renewed for another season, but that upcoming installment will be the series’ last. Season 8 will broadcast during the 2025-26 television season on CBS and will also be available to stream on Paramount+.

“The brilliant cast and creative team at ‘The Neighborhood’ led by the incomparable Cedric the Entertainer have brought levity, laughter and poignant storylines to Monday nights for seven incredible seasons,” CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach said in a Monday statement. “‘The Neighborhood’ is a strong ratings performer for CBS and one of the top comedies on TV. We believe the show’s loyal fans deserve a proper farewell season full of the trademark humor and heartfelt moments that are synonymous with the series.”

Created by Jim Reynolds, “The Neighborhood” follows a white midwestern family as they adjust to their new life in their predominantly Black neighborhood in Pasadena, California. Cedric the Entertainer stars as Calvin Butler and also serves as an executive producer. The comedy first premiered in 2018, and though it has been largely panned by critics, the series has been a consistent ratings performer for the network. Season 7 of the comedy, which premiered in October of 2024, delivered 6.4 million viewers with 35-day multiplatform viewing, according to CBS.

The comedy also stars Max Greenfield, Beth Behrs, Tichina Arnold, Sheaun McKinney, Marcel Spears and Skye Townsend. In addition to Cedric the Entertainer, Bill Martin, Mike Schiff, Aaron Kaplan, Wendi Trilling and Eric Rhone serve as EPs. “The Neighborhood” is produced by CBS Studios.

Though this may be the end of “The Neighborhood,” its not the end of this particular TV universe. A spinoff is currently in the works from Paramount+, which will focus on Tracy Morgan’s character Francois “Frank” Crutchfield. “Crutch” will follow the Harlem widower whose empty nest plans are put on hold after his millennial son and free-spirited daughter move back home, a logline for the series reads.

“The Neighborhood” Season 7 airs Mondays on CBS through May 5.
