ABC ‘s live musical version of “The Little Mermaid” will not be part of our world anytime soon.
The network announced on Thursday that the production has been pulled from its schedule for the time being. ABC had planned to air it on Oct. 3 and had not yet announced a cast.
“We are postponing the ‘Little Mermaid Live’ special,” an ABC representative said in a statement. “We love the idea of doing a live musical and want to make it wonderful. The project is so unique that we are making best efforts to do it next year and want to give it all the attention it deserves.”
The decision follows NBC recently pushing back the air date for Jennifer Lopez’s live version of “Bye Bye Birdie.”
Musicals have become trendy for networks, with ABC having aired a taped version of “Dirty Dancing” earlier this year.
