Dev Patel Goes Medieval in David Lowery and A24’s Nightmarish ‘The Green Knight’ Trailer (Video)

Alicia Vikander also stars in retelling of King Arthur legend opening May 29

The latest fantastical nightmare from A24 comes from the mind of David Lowery as he tells a new, chilling take on the Arthurian legend of “The Green Knight,” with Dev Patel taking on the member of King Arthur’s court, Sir Gawain.

Patel stars with Alicia Vikander and Joel Edgerton in this dark, sinister, “Game of Thrones” meets “Midsommar”-looking story in which Sir Gawain, King Arthur’s reckless and headstrong nephew, embarks on a daring quest to confront the eponymous Green Knight, a gigantic emerald-skinned stranger and tester of men. Gawain contends with ghosts, giants, thieves, and schemers in what becomes a deeper journey to define his character and prove his worth in the eyes of his family and kingdom by facing the ultimate challenger.

“I fear I’m not meant for greatness,” Patel says in the trailer. “We all fear, but fear can be a gift,” the King replies.

Lowery is following up his sobering film of death and grief “A Ghost Story” with A24, as well as 2018’s “The Old Man and the Gun” starring Robert Redford.

Lowery both wrote and directed the film that also stars Sarita Choudhury, Sean Harris, Kate Dickie, Barry Keoghan and Ralph Ineson.

A24 is releasing “The Green Knight” this summer on May 29, 2020. Watch the first trailer for the film above.
