Barry Allen may not be the only person to carry the moniker of “The Flash” when the hit CW superhero drama returns for its second season.

As revealed at the San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday, “The Flash” has added “Masters of Sex” actor Teddy Sears to its Season 2 cast. He will play Jay Garrick, whom DC comic book fans will immediately recognize as the first character to take the moniker of The Flash.

On the show, Sears’ character will be a mysterious newcomer to Central City, who warns Barry and the S.T.A.R. Labs gang of an impending danger.

“Having Jay Garrick come onto the show was one of our earliest ideas,” said executive producer Andrew Kreisberg. “It is so exciting, as we rush into season 2, that we finally get to bring the Crimson Comet to life. We couldn’t imagine anyone more suited to play the original Flash than Teddy.”

The show is also bringing another DC character into the fold, and has cast Shantel VanSanten (“One Tree Hill,” “The Messengers”) as Patty Spivot, a police officer and science enthusiastic who catches Barry’s eye.

“The Flash” returns on Tuesday, Oct. 6 at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
