Comedian Hasan Minhaj is joining Netflix to host a weekly talk show, the streaming service announced Thursday.

Netflix committed to 32 episodes of the show that will explore the modern cultural and political landscape. Minhaj, who will be the first Indian-American host of a weekly comedy talk show, will use his comedic voice to explore trends shaping the world.

“I’m thrilled to be joining the Netflix family as the country braces for another election season. And like you, I cannot wait to find out who Putin picks this time,” Minhaj said.

“I’ve been a big fan of Hasan’s for many years. He’s a phenomenal writer with a distinct point of view,” added Bela Bajaria, Vice President of Content for Netflix. “He is a brilliant performer, who is hilarious both on stage and off, and more importantly he isn’t afraid to share his thoughtful voice and unique perspective. We are so excited to bring his new talk series to Netflix members around the world.”

Minhaj already has one comedy special on Netflix, “Hasan Minhaj: Homecoming King,” and last year hosted the 2017 White House Correspondents’ Dinner. He was Jon Stewart’s last hire on “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart,” and has continued as a contributor with Trevor Noah as host.

He will remain with “The Daily Show” through July.

Minhaj will serve as executive producer with Minhaj Inc, along with Prashanth Venkataramanujam, Jennie Church-Cooper with Haven Entertainment, and Art & Industry’s Michelle Caputo and Shannon Hartman.

His talk show will debut on Netflix later this year.
