A new look at the upcoming Amazon superhero series “The Boys” was revealed at the show’s panel at New York Comic-Con on Friday, complete with a surprise cameo from Simon Pegg, whose likeness was the inspiration for “Hughie” in the original comic book series.
Pegg will appear in the series as Hughie (Jack Quaid)’s dad.
A new promo for the series featured a commercial for Vought, the multibillion dollar superhero management company. The conglomerate’s VP of Hero Management, Madelyn Stillwell (Elisabeth Shue) says in the promo that Vought provides the world with the “safety, service, and super it deserves.”
“No matter where you adventures take you, remember, Vought is here for you,” she continues. The commercial ends and the promo cuts to The Boys, who promptly give the TV the bird.
The hour-long, eight episode series stars Jessie T. Usher as A-Train, Antony Starr as Homelander, Erin Moriarty as Starlight, Dominique McElligott as Queen Maeve, Chace Crawford as The Deep, Nathan Mitchell as Black Noir, Karl Urban as Butcher, Laz Alonso as Mother’s Milk, Tomer Kapon as Frenchie, and Karen Fukuhara as The Female.
“The Boys” was developed and written by showrunner Eric Kripke, and is executive produced by Kripke, Point Grey Pictures’ Evan Goldberg (“Preacher”), Seth Rogen (“Preacher”) and James Weaver (“Preacher”), Original Film’s Neal H. Moritz (“Prison Break”), Ori Marmur (“Preacher”) and Pavun Shetty (“New Girl”), as well as Jason Netter and Ken Levin.
