Fox has delayed the planned May preview of its ambitious sci-fi series "Terra Nova," the network announced Friday.
The highly anticipated series, which is executive produced by Steven Spielberg, will now debut in the fall.
The preview of "Terra Nova" was originally scheduled to air May 23.

The delay is a blow to the series, which Fox has heavily promoted. The network said the series needed more time to work on special effects, which include dinosaurs. The series is about people in the future who travel back to prehistoric times because their world is dying.

“The world of 'Terra Nova' is visually stunning on multiple levels, and effects play an enormous part,” said executive producer René Echevarria. “Premiering in the fall will give us the proper time to create a world never before seen on television.”
In January, Fox Entertainment Chairman Peter Rice denied that "Terra Nova" was a runaway production, saying it was on budget. Executive producer Alex Graves said that the show hoped to gain a wider audience than "Lost."
Fox will air its two-part season finale of "American Idol" on May 24 and 25, temporarily switching back to its Tuesday-Wednesday airing schedule.
