The first trailer for “Terminator: Dark Fate” reveals the day after “Judgment Day,” with Sarah Connor returning to the franchise to give humanity a fighting chance.
Linda Hamilton reprises her iconic role and reunites with creator James Cameron for the first time since 1991.
This time, Connor has encountered a new Terminator robot (played by Mackenzie Davis) sent to defend another girl (Natalia Reyes) who might be key to survival.
“How do we win?” she asks her robotic protector. “We win by keeping you alive.”
The original Terminator himself is also back in action, with Arnold Schwarzenegger returning to the franchise. He’ll face off against another all-powerful T-1000 (played by Gabriel Luna), this one with the ability to turn to liquid and split into a second Terminator figure.
Cameron co-wrote the story for “Dark Fate” and was heavily involved in the process as a producer, but it’s Tim Miller, the director of the original “Deadpool,” who is in the director’s chair this time around for what is meant to be the definitive sequel to the original franchise, somewhat ignoring some of the other films that have come since Cameron’s “T2: Judgment Day” hit theaters.
And in case it wasn’t clear, they’ve even released a special featurette with Cameron himself assuring you this is the real deal.
“‘Terminator: Dark Fate’ is the direct sequel to ‘Terminator 2,” Cameron says in the clip. “We pick up the characters that we knew from ‘Terminator 2,” and we carry them forward.”
“He knows the material like nobody else,” Miller says of Cameron. Watch the featurette here.
From Paramount Pictures and Skydance, “Terminator: Dark Fate” hits theaters on Nov. 1.
