Contract Tensions on ‘Jersey Shore’ Set

Rumors of a strike run wild as “Jersey Shore’s” contract negotiations get nasty

With contract talks turning nasty and rumors of a full-on strike going around, there's clearly some kind of trouble on the set of MTV's hit "Jersey Shore."

An individual close to the cast told TheWrap that contract talks between the "Jersey Shore" stars and MTV aren't going well, but reports that the cast of the Garden-state reality series was going on strike are exaggerated.

"Jersey Shore" cast-member Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino confirmed whispers of problems with the show. Sorrentino posted a link to a news article about the supposed strike on his Twitter page and said, "We got a situation."

Later on Monday, the Hollywood Reporter said the cast was close to getting a pay raise.

Season two of "Jersey Shore" starts July 29. The upcoming installment of the show will feature the cast going down to Miami before returning to another summer in Seaside Heights, New Jersey. Several of the cast members have said that MTV will be expanding their vision for more "Jersey Shore," splitting footage from the planned season two into Miami and Jersey portions to create a second and third season. MTV has yet to confirm reports of season three.

On Sunday, TMZ posted what is said was a contract for Sorrentino to sign on for a fourth season of "Jersey Shore." Based on the contract shown on TMZ, Sorrentino would be in line to get a hefty raise for season four — $27,500-$45,000 an episode compared the approximately $10,000-per-episode fee he currently pulls down.

It is unclear if difficulties in ongoing negotiations between MTV and the "Jersey Shore" cast were due to plans to split season two or issues surrounding a fourth season of the show.

As of this writing neither MTV or "Jersey Shore's" production company 495 Productions have responded to requests for comment.
