More NBCU Shake-Up: Telemundo President Don Browne to Retire

Browne, who turns 68 next month, is latest in series of executives to depart since Comcast took over the company

Telemundo president Don Browne and Paula Madison, NBCUniversal's executive VP of diversity, are the latest executives to leave the company in the wake of Comcast's takeover.

A successor for Browne, who worked for the company for more than 30 years and turns 68 next month, will be named soon, the network said. Browne's last day will be June 3, the eighth anniversary of his starting at Telemundo as its chief operating officer.

Madison, a 22-year veteran of the company, is stepping down May 20. Previously, Jeff Gaspin and Angela Bromstad exited the company.

Browne has been responsible for every aspect of Telemundo and its 14 owned-and-operated stations, as well as Telemundo International, Telemundo Cable, and Telemundo’s Digital Media initiatives, sales, and marketing.

The network has earned record-breaking ratings in recent months thanks in part to the telenovela "La Reina del Sur."

"Don Browne has had an outstanding career as a broadcaster and executive, from his years as a bureau chief and executive vice president of NBC News to his tenure most recently at Telemundo, which under his leadership has become an extremely exciting part of our portfolio," said NBCUniversal CEO Steve Burke said. "We are grateful for what he has accomplished and wish him all the best on a well-deserved retirement.”

Browne began his career with NBC in 1979 as NBC News’ Miami bureau chief. He was promoted to executive news director in 1989 and executive vice president of NBC News in 1991, and was involved in hiring key talent for the network.

He then worked as president and general manager of WTVJ, NBC’s owned-and-operated station in Miami.

Madison joined WNBC-TV in 1989 and became the company's first diversity officer in 2007. She told the Los Angeles Times she is leaving to become more involved in her family's business, Williams Group Holdings, which is majority owner in the Los Angeles Sparks professional basketball team and the largest investor in the Africa Channel.
