Taylor Swift Joins Zac Efron, Betty White in ‘Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax’

Swift will play the voice of Audrey in Christopher Meledandri’s animated 3D adaptation of the kiddie book

Taylor Swift, Zac Efron, Betty White, Danny DeVito, Ed Helms and Rob Riggle will lend their voices to Universal's 3D-CGI feature "Dr. Seuss' The Lorax," the studio announced Thursday.

The Chrisopher Meledandri-produced movie has a release date of March 2, 2012.

According to Universal, the adaptation will focus on "a boy who searches for the one thing that will help him win the affection of the girl of his dreams. To find it, he must discover the story of the Lorax, the grumpy yet charming creature who fights to protect his world."

Suess' original story, of course, centered on the Lorax's fight to save a forest full of kaleidoscopic trees from capitalistic greed.

However the movie shapes up, DeVito will play the Lorax. Efron plays Ted, the boy and Swift will play Audrey, the girl of Ted's dreams. White plays Ted's wise grandmother.

The movie is the third feature from Universal and Illumination Entertainment. The companies also produced "Hop," being released April 1, and last year's "Despicable Me."

"Lorax" reunites "Despicable Me" director Chris Renaud and screenwriters Cinco Paul and Ken Daurio.

Illumination Entertainment founder Meledandri and fellow "Despicable Me" producer Janet Healey are producing. Audrey Geisel — the author Theodor Seuss Geisel's widow — is executive producer.

"The Lorax" was first published in 1971 and has sold more than a million copies worldwide.
