Taylor Swift is once again effecting change in the ways of internet commerce.
“Style” singer Swift, who last month played a major part in convincing Apple to reverse its policy not to pay royalties to artists during customers’ three-month trial period for it new streaming service, has now prompted GoFundMe to raise its limit on donations, after Swift gave a cancer patient $50,000 via the service.
GoFundMe will now allow donations up to $50,000. The previous limit was $15,000.
“Taylor Swift‘s donation was so generous that it required us to increase the donation limit on the platform,” GoFundMe CEO Rob Solomon said in a release issued by the company.
Swift made her donation to Naomi Oakes’ campaign on Tuesday in multiple installments to circumvent GoFundMe’s previous donation limit.
According to Solomon, Swift — who has made donations to other GoFundMe campaigns — is the most generous donor in the site’s history.
“What Ms. Swift has done for Naomi and others can inspire the next generation of giving,” Solomon said.
The 11-year-old Oakes, who was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia on June 25, was devastated when she found out her treatment would prevent her from attending Swift’s concert in Phoenix.
“To the beautiful and brave Naomi, I’m sorry you have to miss it, but there will always be more concerts,” Swift wrote in a message accompanying the donations. “Let’s focus on getting you feeling better. I’m sending the biggest hugs to you and your family.”
