Taika Waititi is in character as Adolf Hitler in the first still released from his upcoming movie, “Jojo Rabbit.”
“First still from the set of WW2 satire, #JojoRabbit: Jojo (played by Roman Griffin Davis) having dinner with his imaginary friend Adolf (played by writer/director @TaikaWaititi), and his mother, Rosie (#ScarlettJohansson),” tweeted the movie’s official Twitter page on Monday.
Waititi retweeted the image, writing, “One of the weirder dinners I’ve attended.”
“Jojo Rabbit,” a satire written by, directed and starring the “Thor: Ragnarok” director, revolves around a little boy enrolled in the Nazi Youth program who carries a series flame for the reviled historical figure.
In the film, a young boy sublimates a goofy and charming version of Hitler for his missing father, a Nazi soldier accused of being a traitor. After sustaining an injury in his Hitler Youth training, little Jojo is bedridden and learns that his mother is harboring a young Jewish girl fleeing Nazi persecution.
“It’s my version of… a lonely boy’s best version of his hero, which is really his dad,” Waititi told TheWrap in March.
Sam Rockwell and rebel Wilson also star. No release date has been set.
