Sylvester Stallone’s Son Died of Heart Disease, Coroner Says

Sage Stallone, who died at age 36 in July, died a natural death

Sylvester Stallone's son Sage Stallone, who was found dead in his Los Angeles home at the age of 36 in July, died of a heart ailment and not of a drug overdose, the Los Angeles County Coroner said Thursday.

The coroner's office ruled Stallone's final cause of death as atherosclerotic coronary artery disease, a thickening of an artery wall.

The coroner found no other conditions, and deemed Stallone's manner of death to be natural.

Toxicology tests on Stallone  came back negative, aside from "a sub-therapeutic level of hydrocodone."

The coroner's report is expected to be available sometime within the next week.

TMZ initially reported that Stallone had overdosed on pills. Shortly after Stallone's death, his attorney George Braunstein told the New York Post that his client had been "in good spirits" recently.

“He was in good spirits, and working on all kinds of projects,” Braunstein said. “He was planning on getting married. I am just devastated. He was an extremely wonderful, loving guy. This is a tragedy.”

Sage, Stallone's son with his first wife Sasha, played Rocky Balboa Jr. in the 1990 film "Rocky V," and also appeared with his father in the 1996 thriller "Daylight."

The elder Stallone discussed his son during an appearance on "The Tonight Show" earlier this month, telling host Jay Leno, "He was a lovely boy, and I’ll always treasure that."
