ABC Family has renewed “Switched at Birth” for a fifth season, the network announced Wednesday.
The series chronicles the lives of two families brought together when they discover that their daughters — one deaf, one hearing — were swapped by the hospital at birth. The fourth season finale will air Monday, Oct. 26.
“Every season ‘Switched at Birth’ continues to deliver fresh, relatable storylines that tackle important social issues, reflecting what our audience experiences daily,” Karey Burke, Executive Vice President, Programming and Development said in a statement. “We’re excited to see where Lizzy will take these characters next.”
The Peabody Award-winning series is executive-produced by Lizzy Weiss (“Blue Crush”), Paul Stupin (“Dawson’s Creek,” “Make It or Break It”) and Linda Gase (“ER,” “Army Wives”).
Katie Leclerc, Vanessa Marano, Constance Marie, D.W. Moffett, Lea Thompson, Lucas Grabeel and Sean Berdy star, with Marlee Matlin as a recurring guest.
