Actor Jared Padalecki, who plays Sam on “Supernatural,” was arrested for assault with injury at a bar he owns in Austin, Texas.
Austin police provided Padalecki’s mugshot, seen above. An affidavit for Padalecki’s arrest obtained by TheWrap says authorities were called to the scene at a bar called Stereotype, early Monday morning. The general manager told authorities that Padalecki is the owner of the bar.
Authorities said they arrived at the scene shortly after 2 a..m to find bystanders pointing at Padalecki and making statements along the lines of “Take this guy to jail.” One victim told authorities that a verbal argument had taken place inside the bar, resulting in Padalecki being escorted outside. When he tried to re-enter the bar, the fight became physical. Officers identified two victims, the assistant manager and the general manager, who claim that Padalecki struck them both in the face, causing one to bleed from the eyebrow.
Authorities also describe Padalecki in the affidavit as appearing to be intoxicated, and observed him “swaying side to side while standing” and “smiling and laughing.” The actor initially refused to speak with the officer, but later complied and sat on the front bumper of the police car. Soon after, authorities said Padalecki stood up and approached one officer, causing another officer to physically restrain him. Padalecki was then placed in handcuffs, frisked for weapons, and put in the back of the police car.
Padalecki was arrested on two counts on assault with injury, which is considered a misdemeanor, and bond was set at $5,000 for each.
Padalecki was recently cast as the title character in an upcoming reboot of “Walker, Texas Ranger” on The CW called “Walker.”
Reps for Padalecki and The CW and CBS TV Studios did not immediately respond to TheWrap’s request for comment.
The arrest was first reported by TMZ, which also obtained a video of Padalecki speaking to police officers and being put into a squad car.
“Supernatural” has been airing since 2005 on The CW, and is currently in its 15th and final season. Padalecki plays Sam Winchester, who hunts supernatural phenomena along with his brother Dean, played by Jensen Ackles. The CW is also developing “Walker,” which Padalecki is set to executive produce. No word yet on whether his arrest will affect production on “Walker,” though TV Line reports that the arrest will not affect production on “Supernatural.”
