In “The Fate of the Furious” Super Bowl LI trailer, the family is facing its greatest foe in Dom Toretto (Vin Diesel) and there’s even more car-crashing and face-punching.
F. Gary Gray’s directorial debut in the franchise looks packed with over-the-top action. We already knew a submarine would factor into a car chase, but we didn’t know it was going to try to take Roman Pearce (Tyrese Gibson) with it.
The eighth film in the franchise turns series protagonist Dom against his allies and is, apparently, working for villain Charlize Theron. We’re not sure what’s going on there — brainwashing? Some kind of hostage situation? — but it’s definitely not great for the rest of the team.
We’ve already seen Dom straight-up wreck Roman’s car and turn on wife Letty (Michelle Rodriguez). It’s so bad that Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) has to recruit “Furious 7” villain Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham) to take Dom down. Looks like things are going to get bad.
“The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift” protagonist Sean Boswell (Lucas Black) is back in the mix for “F8.” It’s an all-hands-on-deck situation when Dom goes dark.
