Summit Entertainment has acquired North American distribution rights for the Nicolas Cage film "Drive Angry."
The 3D project will be directed by Patrick Lussier ("My Bloody Valentine") and centers on a man with a "mysterious past" as he drives through the desert chasing the man who kidnapped his grandchild and killed his daughter.
Lussier co-wrote the screenplay with Todd Farmer, whose previous credits include "The Messengers" and "Jason X."
Summit had a string of hits this year, led by mega-grossing "The Twilight Saga: New Moon" and the awards contender "The Hurt Locker."
Summit also has worked with Cage before, previously distributing his 2009 thriller "Knowing."
"Drive Angry" is expected to hit theaters in February 2011. Michael De Luca will produce via his Michael De Luca Productions banner along with Adam Fields. Boaz Davidson and Danny Dimbort will executive produce via their Nu Image Films banner along with Avi Lerner and Trevor Short.
