What can we expect from Warner Bros.’ next DC movie, “Suicide Squad”?
According to Jared Leto, who plays the Joker in the new supervillain mashup, there’s “sweat, blood, and semen” in the forecast.
That’s what the actor promised when he appeared at the MTV Movie Awards to present a sneak peak clip from the upcoming film. He was joined on stage by co-stars Margot Robbie, Cara Delevingne, and Will Smith, who received the Generation Award at the show, which aired Sunday night.
All four actors play DC supervillains who are on death row for their crimes…or they were until a secret government agency called Task Force X gives them an offer they can’t refuse.
The villains are assigned by Task Force X leader Amanda Waller (Viola Davis), to take on dangerous black ops missions for the U.S. government in exchange for clemency. The new clip shows the psychotic antiheroes excitedly testing out their new gear as Rick Flag (Joel Kinnaman) lays down the rules for the team that’s assuredly going to give him the biggest headache of his career.
The trailer also has a tiny taste of what Leto will bring to the table as the Joker, delivering dialogue with a style rather similar to Heath Ledger‘s “Dark Knight” Joker. Even more intriguing are quick shots of what seems to be Batman taking a dramatic leap to save Harley Quinn and the Batmobile sliding through an intersection just before the title card is displayed.
“Suicide Squad” also stars Jay Hernandez, Jai Courtney, and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, with David Ayer writing and directing.
“Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice” director Zach Snyder serves as executive producer, with Geoff Johns, Deborah Snyder, Colin Wilson, Charles Roven, and Richard Suckle also producing.
“Suicide Squad” will debut in theaters Aug. 5, 2016.
