STXfilms has appointed Mike Viane as Head of Theatrical Sales, the company announced Thursday.
The veteran movie executive assumes the EVP role in September, reporting to STXfilms Domestic Distribution President Kevin Grayson.
A 20-plus year veteran of Warner Bros., Viane most recently served as a film buyer for Regal Entertainment and consultant for Vision Media Management and indie distributor Bleecker Street.
“Mike’s track record and expertise are unparalleled; we will rely on his vast experience and extensive network to accelerate the next phase of our expansion,” Grayson said of the hire. Viane will oversee theatrical sales and distribution management, and play a key role in strategic planning, contract negotiations and market expansion.
STX is on the brink of several wide releases, with some big female star vehicles in the pipeline. In October, they’ll release the Jackie Chan-Pierce Brosnan action thriller “The Foreigner” followed by a sequel to their Mila Kunis hit “Bad Moms” on November 2.
On Nov. 22 they release Aaron Sorkin’s directorial debut “Molly’s Game,.” starring Jessica Chastain and Idris Elba.
