Netflix has ordered “Prank Encounters,” a hidden-camera prank show hosted and executive produced by “Stranger Things” actor Gaten Matarazzo.
Per Netflix: “Each episode of this terrifying and hilarious prank show takes two complete strangers who each think they’re starting their first day at a new job. It’s business as usual until their paths collide and these part-time jobs turn into full-time nightmares.”
The eight-episode series is produced by Ben Silverman, Howard T. Owens and Kevin Healey for Propagate. Rob Hyde also executive produces alongside Matarazzo. Anthony Gonzalez (“Dance Moms”) will direct.
Matarazzo is known for playing Dustin on “Stranger Things,” but the 16-year-old actor began his professional career in the original Broadway production of “Priscilla Queen of the Desert” as Benji. He also appeared in a 2013 production of “Godspell,” and played Gavroche in the 2014 revival of “Les Misérables.” He will return to the theater this July to lead the cast of Hollywood Bowl’s summer production of “Into the Woods.” Also this summer, Matarazzo’s a six-piece band “Work In Progress” and will tour the country. Matarazzo also founded CCD Smiles, a foundation built to help parents of children with cleidocranial dysplasia pay their dental bills.
“Prank Encounters” is set to debut later this year.
