Can we get a “hell yeah”? USA Network has renewed interview series “Straight Up Steve Austin” for a second season, TheWrap has learned exclusively.
Season 2 will consist of eight half-hour episodes and is set to premiere in Summer 2020. “Straight Up Steve Austin” is produced by Line by Line Media. Retired WWE Superstar “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, a legend in the pro-wrestling world, and Dave Barsky (“Dirty Jobs”) are executive producers.
“Straight Up Steve Austin” was 2019’s highest-rated new unscripted cable series among men 18-49 and men 25-54, according to Nielsen’s Live + 3 Day ratings data. That metric counts 72 hours of (mostly) DVR viewing, and is a very common way of judging prerecorded entertainment series — especially on cable.
In every episode, Austin and a celebrity guest get real, heading out to different cities across America to take part in one-of-a-kind adventures, while swapping stories about their lives and careers, according to USA’s logline. It’s a unique twist on the standard interview show, with no studio, no couch and no cue cards — just a straight-up good time and good old-fashioned American fun.
Season 2 guests will be announced at a later date.
Guests on the show’s initial run included country singer and actor Trace Adkins, NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt Jr., comedian Gabriel Iglesias, WWE Superstar Becky Lynch, NFL quarterback Baker Mayfield, actor and retired United States Marine Corps Reserve officer Rob Riggle, and star of “Impractical Jokers,” Sal Vulcano.
