“Straight Outta Compton,” “50 Shades of Grey” and “Pitch Perfect 2” are among the films singled out by the Guild of Music Supervisors for the sixth annual GMS Awards, which will be presented on Jan. 21 in Los Angeles.
Those three films were nominated in the category devoted to films with a budget of more than $25 million, along with “Creed” and “Kingsman: The Secret Service.”
For films under $25 million, the nominees were “Carol,” “Paper Towns,” “Magic Mike XXL” and “The Prophet,” while the category for films under $5 million included “The Diary of a Teenage Girl,” “Miss You Already,” “Tangerine,” “Welcome to Me” and “I’ll See You in My Dreams.”
In the documentary category, the music docs “Amy,” “Janis: Little Girl Blue,” “Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck” and “The Wrecking Crew” were joined by “The Hunting Ground” and “Meet the Patels.”
Brian Wilson‘s new song from the film about his life, “Love & Mercy,” was nominated in the song category after being ruled ineligible by the Oscars Music Branch.
Television nominees include “Better Call Saul,” “American Idol,” “Nashville,” “Girls” and “Bessie.”
The first-ever Guild of Music Supervisors Legacy Award will be given to Chris Montan, the president of Walt Disney Music.
The Guild of Music Supervisors was founded in 2010 and has been presenting awards since then.
The ceremony will take place at the Theatre at Ace Hotel in downtown Los Angeles.
