Steven Spielberg’s ‘The BFG’ Boasts Giant Scares in First Trailer (Video)

The adaptation of Roald Dahl’s beloved children’s book about a big friendly giant hits theaters July 1, 2016

In the first trailer for Steven Spielberg‘s adaptation of Roald Dahl’s “The BFG,” released Wednesday, a big, scary-looking giant comes to snatch Sophie from the orphanage.

“It was the witching hour when the boogieman comes out, when people go missing…” a voiceover says in the trailer, movie is set up like the beginning of a horror movie. “I think it comes at 3 in the morning when I’m the only one left awake. Never get out of bed. Never go to the window. Never look behind the curtain.”

Of course, those familiar with the story know that the Big Friendly Giant turns out to be extremely loving and kind-hearted who is an outcast among the other giants because he refuses to eat boys and girls.

The film stars Mark Rylance as the Giant and Ruby Barnhill as Sophie. Other cast members include Bill Hader, Rebecca Hall and Jermaine Clement.

The movie is set to hit theaters on July 1.
