Steven S. DeKnight has stepped down as showrunner on Netflix’s “Jupiter’s Legacy” over creative differences, TheWrap has learned.
The streaming service is currently halfway through production on the first season of the show, which is not expected to go on hiatus as Netflix searches for DeKnight’s replacement.
The superhero series stars Josh Duhamel, Ben Daniels, Leslie Bibb, Elena Kampouris, Andrew Horton, Mike Wade and Matt Lanter and is among the first from Mark Millar’s slate at the streaming service, which is based on his and artist Frank Quitely’s graphic novels. “Jupiter’s Legacy” follows the world’s first generation of superheroes who received their powers in the 1930s. In present day, they are the revered elder guard, but their superpowered children struggle to live up to the legendary feats of their parents.
DeKnight was executive producing the series with Millar, Quitely, Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Dan McDermott. DeKnight wrote and directed the first episode.
DeKnight signed an overall deal with Netflix in June 2018. His relationship with Netflix began with him serving as showrunner on the first season of Marvel’s “Daredevil” series. His other small-screen credits include creating and executive producing the Starz series “Spartacus: Gods of the Arena” and “Spartacus: War of the Damned,” along with his extensive work inside Joss Whedon’s TV universe, with writing, directing and producing credits on series like “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” “Angel” and “Dollhouse.”
Representatives for Netflix and DeKnight did not immediately respond to TheWrap’s request for comment regarding DeKnight’s exit.
Deadline first reported the news of DeKnight’s exit.
