Stephen Colbert Debuts Zany ‘MAGA Maniacs’ Homage to Classic Warner Bros. ‘Toon ‘Animaniacs’

Sadly we must report there was no baloney in anyone’s slacks

“The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” debuted a new animated ‘toon on Tuesday night, and though its partisan nature might have prevented it from being zany to the max, it was a fairly high-fidelity homage to the classic Warner Bros. “Animaniacs” show.

The 48-second all-animated spoof featured roughly drawn images of Donald Trump, JD Vance, Mike Johnson and of course Elon Musk. Vladimir Putin and new health secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. also get cameos.

The frenetic Tuesday night segment was an obvious play on “Animaniacs,” the zany, irreverent animated variety show produced by Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment and Warner Bros. animation in 1993. But instead of Yakko, Wakko and Dot, we got Johnson, Vance and Don.

Though it was a full verse shorter than the original and with the key tuned up at least a full step, the “Late Show” version remained highly true to the original ‘toon’s high-energy opening, with lots of white gloves waving around and plenty of lyrical touchpoints (though Bill Clinton playing sax was somehow omitted).

For the curious, here are the “Late Show” lyrics in full:

It’s time for MAGA maniacs
Federal workers get the axe
DEI rollbacks
Putin can relax
We’re MAGA maniacs

Yes we make up our own maps
Donald Trump is eating snacks
Cabinet full of quacks
Who don’t rely on facts
We’re MAGA maaany,
Biden will be Blamey’d
Anti-Ukraine-y
Worm up in his brain-y
We’re MAGA maniacs!

At this point, Yakko bursts from the presidential seal with a bottle of pills and says: “Have a Xanax.”

Hello, nurse!
