This won’t shock regular viewers, but on Tuesday’s “The Late Show,” Stephen Colbert once again had some fun at Donald Trump’s expense by celebrating Wednesday’s public impeachment hearings with what we’ll call an impeachment Christmas carol.
In the gag, footage of major media outlets referring to the night before the hearings as “Impeachment Hearing Eve” was played. Then came the song, a parody of the classic “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year” Christmas ditty, but with the lyrics changed so the song is about Trump’s impeachment inquiry-related woes.
Watch the clip above, but just in case you can’t turn up the sound yet, the new lyrics are:
It’s the most wonderful time of the year
With Republicans screaming and Democrats dreaming impeachment is near
It’s the most wonderful time of the year
It’s the im-peachiest season of all
Getting dirt from the Ukraine to help your next campaign will be your downfall
It’s the im-peachiest season of all
There’ll be transcripts for reading the president’s tweeting that this whole thing is a hoax
There’ll be Nunes and Jordan ignoring extortion executive privilege invoked
It’s the most wonderful time
Yes the most wonderful time
Oh, the most obvious crime
You’ll ever hear
