Amazon Studios released the first trailer for Spike Lee‘s “Chi-Raq” on Tuesday.

The film is based on the Greek play “Lysistrata” by Aristophanes. Samuel L. Jackson serves as the chorus telling the story of a “gorgeous Nubian sister” name Lysistrata (Teyonah Parris) who convinces the women of Chicago to withhold sex until the men of the city agree to stop the violence that is plaguing it.

In addition to Parris and Jackson, the film stars Nick Cannon, Wesley SnipesAngela Bassett and Jennifer Hudson. Lee directed and co-wrote the screenplay with Kevin Willmott.

The film is a joint production between Lee’s 40 Acres & A Mule Filmworks and Amazon Studios. Roadside Attractions and Lionsgate will handle the film’s theatrical release.

“Chi-Raq” is due to premiere on Dec. 4 in limited release in theaters. It will then be available on Amazon Instant Video shortly thereafter.
