We’re approaching two decades since the release of the Spice Girls’ first album, and Mel B has some good news for fans: The girl group will reunite at some point this year to mark the occasion. The bad news, however, is that only three members will participate.
“We are going to do something,” Mel B (a.k.a. Scary Spice) told James Corden on “The Late Late Show” Thursday. “We’re gonna perform and celebrate.” Fellow Spices Emma Bunton (Baby) and Geri Halliwell (Ginger) will join Mel B for shows that will likely start in London.
And why would this reunion only be the three of them?
“‘Cause the other two b—-es didn’t want to do it!” she joked. Clearly knowing that would be everyone’s headline the next morning, she clarified that “lovely ladies” are a little busy at the moment: Victoria Beckham (Posh, if you’ve forgotten) with her fashion line, and Mel C (Sporty) is recording an album of her own.
“They gracefully said, ‘You other three should go ahead and do it.’ We’re girl power, we support each other,” she said.
While the three Spices won’t be replacing the other two — “I don’t think we could ever replace Sporty or Posh,” Mel B said — there will likely be many, many special guests on stage with Scary, Baby and Ginger. (Don’t rule out Adele.)
