Sony Wants a Piece of Tarantino’s ‘Django’

Studio executives have met with the director to join his “Django Unchained”

Quentin Tarantino and Sony Pictures Studios are in negotiations for the studio to co-finance "Django Unchained" and release it in international markets.

The Weinstein Co. is handling U.S. distribution.

"Django Unchained" is Tarantino's long-awaited spaghetti western. It's about a German bounty hunter — word is, Christoph Waltz will get that part — who helps an ex-slave rescue his wife from a plantation owner.

Numerous published reports say Tarantino wants Will Smith for the part of the former slave. Smith has a deal with Sony, which could help explain why the studio is getting the international nod, rather than Universal, which also lobbied hard for it.
