Walter White is coming back from the dead — in virtual reality. After going off the air nearly four years ago, the seminal AMC drama “Breaking Bad” is set to return in VR, thanks to a partnership with Sony Playstation.
Sony expects to announce more on the “Breaking Bad” VR experience at the E3 video game conference in Los Angeles next week. While there is no word on the storyline or if talent like Bryan Cranston will be involved, show creator Vince Gilligan is reportedly excited to work with Sony on the non-game project.
The development was first reported by Variety.
Sony jumped into the VR arms race last fall with its Playstation headset, and the move has paid off in spades. The company reportedly sold nearly one million Playstation VR consoles in the three months following its October release, easily pushing it towards the top of the budding industry.
“I’ve said this is very very early days and a very new medium and it’s going to grow slowly and organically over time,” said Andrew House, global CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment in an interview with USA Today. “This is VR 1.0. It’s going to be a long road.”
Sony has not immediately returned TheWrap’s request for comment.
