Hey, get a whiff of Sofia Vergara and Eric Stonestreet.

“Modern Family” star Stonestreet took to Instagram on Wednesday, ahead of the season premiere of the ABC sitcom, to offer fans a behind-the-scenes look at his interaction with co-star Sofia Vergara.

And it’s quite the odd and intimate interaction as well.

The photo depicts Vergara, who plays Gloria Delgado-Pritchett on the series, leaning in toward Stonestreet, who portrays Cameron Tucker on the show, to take a good sniff at him.

“Yes @sofiavergara is smelling me. It’s just a small example of what takes place behind the scenes of Modern Family which, starts tonight at 9/8 central only on ABC,” Stonestreet captioned the photo.

For his part, Stonestreet is wearing an expression suggesting that he’s not quite sure if he’ll pass the smell test.

Stonestreet didn’t say — and possibly had no idea — why Vergara was putting her nose in his business. Maybe she was trying to sniff out whether Cameron is the “significant” character who dies in the upcoming 10th season, a development that series co-creator Christopher Lloyd recently revealed.

One thing fans might not be as excited about when “Modern Family” returns: series co-creator Christopher Lloyd recently said that a “significant” character would die in Season 10.

“We’re handling some bigger life events in this season,” Lloyd said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. “We do deal with a death, which is certainly a topic that families have to deal with, and on television, it’s not easy to do because that’s a heavy subject. But at the same time, it would seem unusual for a family not to go through it.”
