The MTV Video Music Awards didn’t have a host this year, but “Saturday Night Live” star Jay Pharoah lent a helping hand in the comedy department by whipping out his killer Jay Z impersonation.
Pharoah — whose comedic armory is also loaded with Will Smith, Eddie Murphy and President Obama impressions — ripped the rapper, who refers to himself as Hova, for his parenting techniques, and joked about a new line of “premium cough syrup” called “Hovatussin.”

“It’s available at local pharmacies and strip clubs,” Pharoah said during his bit (below).

Pharoah appeared on stage several times during the evening to promote the Artist to Watch award, which was being chosen by fans in a vote that remained open throughout the broadcast.
Fifth Harmony, a girl group known for hit song “Miss Movin On,” ended up securing the award.
